Revelation‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!””

If there’s any book of the Bible I usually shy away from, it’s Revelation 😅. But lately, my best friend; THE PERSON OF THE SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD, has been leading me to study it and to meditate on worship through its pages.

When Jesus taught us to pray, He said:

“Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

This includes worship. Scripture doesn’t just show us Heaven so we can admire it; it shows us Heaven so we can align with it.

Even God asked Job:

Job 38:33

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

It is important to learn about worship from divine revelation because it provides an accurate, God-centered understanding of true worship, shapes believers' character and conduct, and offers an eternal perspective that helps them endure trials and resist worldly compromise.  We see how the Angels, elders in heaven, the host of heaven worship GOD in heaven.

What The Bible Teaches Us About True Worship

We see in Heaven:

  • They worship GOD Continuously

Revelation‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!””

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.”

It says that’s all they do; they don’t rest day or night and in continuous worship and adoration and reverence to GOD.

  • They worship GOD Intimately with Understanding

The Heavenly beings worship GOD with understanding and that’s what made them in awe of GOD and reverence HIM. And their worship embodied a deep knowledge and understanding of who GOD is.

They knew GOD was holy, They know His nature.

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!””

They knew HE was worthy and HIM alone created all things, They know His works.

Revelation‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

““You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.””

‭‭

And when they beheld the Lamb; our Savior Jesus Christ; the One who was slain for the sins of the world, they lifted up a new song in worship.

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬-‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.” Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.”

In Heaven, worship flows from revelation.

  • They worship GOD With Humility

The elders don’t just sing; they bow and cast their crowns before God.

Revelation‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.””

‭‭

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,”

The elders cast their crowns (Rev. 4:10–11) their glory, reward, honor; everything God Himself gave them. They return it back to Him. In an act of complete humility and submission they throw down their crowns at God's throne. By this act of worship, they acknowledge that only God is sovereign and deserving of worship. The twenty-four elders show by casting their crowns before God that they owe all their achievements to God.

Are We Called to Worship Like Heaven?

Yes. We are called to worship the same God, with the same heart; remember, 'on earth as it is in Heaven....'

Revelation 7:9-12 paints the picture of a heavenly multitude worshipping loudly, passionately, and eternally; people from every nation and tribe. That includes us.

Worship on Earth: Our Divine Purpose

Like in Heaven, so we also are to worship GOD

  • Continuously

If heaven worships without ceasing, we too are called to cultivate a lifestyle of continual worship:

  • in our thoughts

  • in our choices

  • in our habits

  • in our daily routines

Worship should not begin on Sunday and end by Monday morning; it should be the atmosphere of our entire lives.

  • Intimately with Understanding

You cannot truly worship a God you do not know or know inadequately.

In Heaven, worship flows from revelation. Revelation shows us that worship is not empty emotion, nor is it dry ritual; it is truth + awe.

Jesus taught the same thing: “…true worshipers will worship in spirit and truth.”(John 4:23–24)

True worship involves both:

  • Spirit → passion, heart, intimacy

  • Truth → knowledge, Scripture, doctrine

Spirit without truth becomes emotional hype. Truth without spirit becomes cold religion. But together, they create God-honoring, life-transforming worship.

The more you know God, the deeper and more authentic your worship becomes.

And today, for us, real worship flows from knowing God through Scripture, truth, and relationship.

I like how GOTQUESTION.COM puts it:

True worship must be “in spirit,” that is, engaging the whole heart. Unless there’s a real passion for God, there is no worship in spirit. At the same time, worship must be “in truth,” that is, properly informed. Unless we have knowledge of the God we worship, there is no worship in truth. Both are necessary for God-honoring worship.
Spirit without truth leads to a shallow, overly emotional experience that could be compared to a high. As soon as the emotion is over, when the fervor cools, the worship ends. Truth without spirit can result in a dry, passionless encounter that can easily lead to a form of joyless legalism. The best combination of both aspects of worship results in a joyous appreciation of God informed by Scripture. The more we know about God, the more we appreciate Him. The more we appreciate, the deeper our worship. The deeper our worship, the more God is glorified.
This melding of spirit and truth in worship is summed up well by Jonathan Edwards, the 18th-century American pastor and theologian. He said, “I should think myself in the way of my duty to raise the affections [emotions] of my hearers as high as possibly I can, provided that they are affected with nothing but truth.” Edwards recognized that truth and only truth can properly influence the emotions in a way that brings honor to God. The truth of God, being of infinite value, is worthy of infinite passion.

  • With Humility

Another thing we learn is them submitting everything, their crowns to worship GOD, it was all about HIM, who GOD is; so knowledge is important to reverence GOD.

Worship is not about you; it’s all about GOD; and everything they had was laid to surrender to GOD in worship.

When you have a deep understanding of the sovereignty of GOD, you will bow in worship, in adoration, in awe, in reverence, you will humble yourself and lay it all at HIS feet and worship HIM.

The act of bowing is a physical expression of worship, reverence, and submission to God in the Bible.

The Bible describes many instances of people bowing down before God, including the Israelites who bowed down in worship after God delivered them from affliction (Exodus 4:31) and the entire assembly of Judah and Jerusalem who bowed before the Lord after King Jehoshaphat's prayer (2 Chronicles 20:18). Additionally, all the angels around the throne in Revelation fell down before the throne to worship God (Revelation 4:10-11).

Now is worship only in singing hymns, with our mouths?; no it goes beyond this; it should be our lifestyle.

TRUE WORSHIP

Worship Is Not Just a Song, It’s a Lifestyle:

Our true and proper worship is to present our bodies, our entire lives as a living sacrifice to God.

Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Our life now is our worship. Music is an expression of worship, but not the whole of worship. Our worship is beyond the singing of hymns, songs, spiritual songs is one of the expression/ways of doing that. Other ways is in the way we live, eat, act, talk, pray, even sleep, work. That’s why Paul said:

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

This means worship is:

  • how we talk

  • how we treat people

  • how we work

  • how we think

  • how we eat

  • how we live

  • how we love God daily.....

When we become Christians, we automatically become worshipers of God. The rest of our lives is simply a brief preparation for what will be an eternal occupation: giving God grateful, wholehearted worship which will never be exhausted, even in eternity.

Why must we worship GOD?

GOD creates everything with a purpose and the answer to this question is tied why we were created, to our purpose and GOD created us to worship HIM.

Why was I created?

First know that is GOD that has created each and everyone of us.

Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

So now I understand GOD created me; but for what purpose then? Because we know that GOD creates with purpose.

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.””

We are created by GOD for GOD. God created us for HIS glory.

Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”

Your purpose is not random.

Your existence is not accidental.

We are created to glorify Him.

A Final Consideration: Acceptable vs. Unacceptable Worship

NLT version of Romans 12 says the true way to worship GOD is to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” It says that’s the kind he will find acceptable; so it means there is a kind of worship unacceptable to GOD?

Yes, we see that with Cain and Abel:

Genesis‬ ‭4‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift,”

Both brothers worshiped.

Both brought something to God.

But God only accepted one.

‭

Why?

Because God looks at the heart behind the worship.

Cain’s offering was casual. Scripture says he brought “some of the fruit.” Nothing special. Nothing costly. Nothing sacrificial. Abel, on the other hand, brought “the firstborn… the best portions.” The first. The finest. The costly. The beloved. The kind of offering that showed honor, reverence, love, and fear of the Lord.

The heart is always reflected in how we worship. Jesus said, “By their fruits you will know them.”  Whatever we bring to God outwardly; how we live, obey, submit, and reverence Him reveals what is happening inwardly. Our worship is simply the expression of our heart, spirit, soul, and even our body. You can’t hide the condition of the heart; it always shows up in the fruit of our lives and in the way we approach God.

The Lesson for Us

Don’t give God “some.” Don’t give Him leftovers. Don’t give Him the parts that cost you nothing. Give Him your best. Give Him your all. That is the worship He accepts.

It shouldn’t be: “I have 24 hours, so I’ll give God two. ”or“ I have this much, so I’ll give God that portion.” the whole 24 hours, all day, all year, all lifetime is to worship HIM.

That is Cain-style worship; some, a piece, what is convenient. Acceptable worship is not about measuring out small portions of our time, talent, or devotion as if God is just one item on our schedule.

The truth is: Everything we have came from God. Everything we are belongs to God. So everything we give should return to Him.

That is worship. That is surrender. That is what Abel did. And that is the worship God calls “acceptable.”

Most importantly, this worship comes from the heart; a heartfelt, Spirit-led worship, offered in spirit and in truth.

To Summarize

How has this revelation changed me?

Honestly, it’s made me so much more intentional with my worship. Not just when I’m singing hymns or lifting my hands, but in the simple things, my words, my reactions, my thoughts. I’m learning to worship with understanding, not just emotion. And even more, I’m learning to live a life of worship.

These days I find myself pausing throughout the day and asking, “Does this glorify God?” Not out of pressure, but out of love. It’s like the Holy Spirit gently teaches me to align my heart with heaven; moment by moment.

And in that, I’m discovering that worship isn’t just something I do; it’s who I’m becoming.

At the end of the day, this is what it all comes down to: God is truly worthy. Heaven knows it, every angel, every elder, every living creature around the throne declares it without ceasing. Worship is all they do, and one day, we will join that eternal chorus just like Revelation describes.

But we’re not meant to wait until heaven to start. We are called to worship God here on earth continuously, intentionally, and wholeheartedly. Not only with our singing, but with our living. With reverence. With understanding. With deep awe. With intimacy. With obedience. With humility. In everything we do.

Worship is not just an act or a moment; it is a lifestyle. A daily acknowledgment that God is worthy of all my time, all my devotion, all my choices, all my heart. And so let our life echo heaven: “Holy, holy, holy… Worthy is the Lord.”

Because GOD truly is.

Prayer

LORD; Heavenly FATHER; I truly truly worship YOU alone and BLESS YOU; help me to truly worship YOU. for YOU alone deserve all my worship beyond my words, let my lifestyle worship and adore you, even as the song says, help me come back to the heart of worship, oh FATHER; the heart of living, cos it really and truly about you JESUS. help me worship YOU in spirit and in truth, beyond the words I sing but my lifestyle LORD

Help me not be silent with my worship; that as long as I am breathing; help me always worship you GOD; always; with all my heart, with my whole life LORD JESUS.

This we pray in JESUS name; Amen🙏
